Student Athletic Training Program
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Penn State Mont Alto student athletic training program is designed to provide an opportunity for students who wish to explore or are currently involved in a possible future in a sports medicine or health care field. This program will provide each student with hands on experience, knowledge, and skills for everyday duties and procedures of the athletic training profession.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
A certified athletic trainer (ATC) is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care at high school through professional levels. ATC’s have at least a bachelor’s degree and must pass a rigorous national exam and are eligible for state licensure through the State.
Student athletic trainers assist the ATC in certain aspects of their jobs and must always remain under the supervision of the ATC. Students are not to perform any activities without the direction of the ATC.
Student Trainers will primarily work after school, assisting the ATC in the training room, and on the practices/game fields. Student trainers will likely work 10-15 hours per week and should work no more than 20 hours a week. The ATC holds the authority to devise a schedule for each student trainer to allow for a better learning environment.
